DD 793 The officers and crew of the USS Fulton Association welcome you to our WEB page. The USS Fulton Association is a group of US Navy veterans who served on the USS Fulton, a submarine tender, whose last homeport was New London, Connecticut. While the USS Fulton has been scrapped her memories live on in the minds and hearts of her crew. Please join us in paying tribute to a ship that served the United States Navy Submarine fleet from 1941 till 1991.

Received this email about the closing of the NSA La Maddalena

"As you may know NSA La Maddalena is disestablishing very soon. The USS Fulton was a cornerstone to the history here. As part of our disestablishment I want to contact anyone who may have been a part of the USS Fulton medical department, the NSO medical department or may have any history of these departments. Any contact information for personnel would also be welcome. Thank you very much.

Can you help? New Request

George Washington

We as you know have the GW sail here. Back in early June 1964 she came back to New London/Fulton from her first complete deterrent patrols. On the portside of the Sail about mid way, was a series of 15 Polaris missiles painted on the side of the sail along with a coming home pennant. We would like to recreate the missiles on the sail. I have two or three somewhat poor news clippings that show this. I was wondering if any stories and or images of this from former GW or Fulton crew who might have snapped a few or out of an ships Public Affairs photos etc. We plan to go ahead this spring with it, just wanted to be a bit more accurate than 30yr old newsclippings. Many thanks. Steve Curator US MAIL: US Navy Submarine Force Museum ATTN: Supervisory Curator: S. Finnigan NAVSUBASE NLON Groton, CT 06439 860-694-3558 FX:860-694-4150

General Information
The Modern Military Branch, National Archives and Records Administration, 8601 Adelphi Road, College Park, MD 20740-6001 (301-837-3510) has custody of the deck logs from 1 January 1941 to the year over thirty years from the present date, as well as microfilm copies of the muster rolls from 1939 through 1975. After 1956, a list of the officers is usually included with the muster rolls. The Modern Military Branch at College Park also has custody of the Bureau of Naval Personnel Casualty Files, which have the official list of Navy casualties for each World War II action. The Bureau of Naval Personnel lists of the World War II Casualties , which have been placed on microfilm and microfiche, can be ordered from the Naval Historical Center. By using the list of officers in the deck logs and the muster rolls, one can compile a list of the crew. Then by using the crew list and the list of Casualties the names of the survivors of a World War II ship or vessel can be created. The muster rolls or crew rosters from 1976 to 30 September 1987 are held by the Enlisted Personnel Management Center, New Orleans, LA 70159-7900, ATTN: Personnel Accounting. The muster rolls or crew rosters from 1 October 1987 to the present are in the custody of the Navy Personnel Command (PERS-06P), 5720 Integrity Drive, Millington, TN 38055 [phone (901)874-3165].

NOTICE

"I am a journalist from Australia and have just interviewed a former Royal Australian Navy sailor who was friends with a former USS Fulton crew member, Les Cottman. Les served aboard Fulton during WWII. He married an Australian girl and after the war moved to Brisbane, Australia, where I understand he has lived for many many years. Les and his Australian friend, Ray Whiting, had not seen each other for 64 years and met again just weeks ago. This is the story I was writing. Unfortunately, Les died last Thursday (June 13). I'm not sure if you keep track of these things, but thought I would bring it to your attention just in case. Kind regards, Mark Bransdon"

Thank you Mark for letting his shipmates know.
